Would your business score 10/10?

Are you absolutely and positively without a doubt certain you're paying your workers their lawful entitlements, including minimum hourly rates, penalty rates, overtime and allowances?

Over this last week the Fair Work Ombudsman has been conducting a series of unannounced audits of businesses focusing particularly on SME's. Over the past three days, Fair Work inspectors have visited more than 80 businesses with Inspectors interviewing business operators and their workers.

The focus has been on assessing records to check workers are receiving their lawful entitlements, including minimum hourly rates, penalty rates, overtime and allowances.

Compliance with record-keeping and pay slip laws was also checked.

Acting Fair Work Ombudsman Michael Campbell says the Fair Work Ombudsman treats allegations of underpayments of workers particularly seriously. He adds that a number of this week's audits could lead to full investigations and businesses with serious non-compliance issues could face formal enforcement action.

So, if you don't feel completely comfortable interpreting the Award/s and deciding which pay rates apply to your workers and what allowances you need to pay them, contact us at HR Tactics. Engaging us to review your current pay rates could just save you a shed load of money in penalties if your business happens to be on the Fair Work Ombudsman's audit list.
