Minimum wages are increasing 3.3% on July 1st - what do I need to do?

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has announced a 3.3% increase to minimum wages.

The increase applies from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2017.

What do I need to do?

Nothing right now and you may not need to do anything after July 1st either if your employees currently get paid above the award base rate or national minimum wage and you chose to leave their pay rates where they are. The Fair Work Ombudsman will release the new pay rates very soon and we advise you to check where your current pay rates are in comparison.

Who does the increase apply to?

The 3.3% increase applies to employees that get their pay rates from:
  • a modern award
  • the national minimum wage (employees who aren't covered by an award or agreement)
If you're covered by a registered agreement, you should check it to see whether this increase affects you.
